Celebrating Vyshyvanka Day at Aberdeen Ukrainian School

This year, pupils, teachers and families at Aberdeen Ukrainian School came together to celebrate Vyshyvanka Day, a special occasion dedicated to one of the most recognisable symbols of Ukrainian culture and identity.

The school was filled with colour as children proudly wore their embroidered shirts and dresses, each representing the rich traditions of different regions of Ukraine. Throughout the day, pupils learned about the history and meaning of the vyshyvanka, took part in themed activities and shared their knowledge of Ukrainian customs.

The celebration provided an opportunity for children to connect with their cultural heritage and appreciate the traditions that have been passed down through generations. It was also a chance to reflect on the importance of preserving Ukrainian language, culture and identity.

We would like to thank our teachers, volunteers and families for helping to make the day so memorable. Seeing our pupils proudly wearing their vyshyvankas reminds us of the strength of our community and the importance of keeping Ukrainian traditions alive for future generations.

Happy Vyshyvanka Day!
