Ukrainian School in Aberdeen
About our School
Our Ukrainian School in Aberdeen was organised shortly after the Russian full scale invasion began. As Ukrainians started arriving in Aberdeen searching safety from the war, the Hub became the place where everyone came together to help. Most of the new arrivals were elderly people and mothers with children so as we started setting up adult English and orientation classes, children were entertained by our arts and crafts volunteers.
As more Ukrainians arrived to the city, and children started settling in local schools, it became clear that the integration process was not smooth for everyone and children needed a space to come together and to continue some learning in Ukrainian.
With a tremendous effort from volunteers and support from the Rosemount Learning Centre, we were able to establish a Ukrainian School where close to 100 children aged 4 to 14-15 come together on Sundays to engage in age-appropriate learning: from Ukrainian language and literature to maths. Overtime, taekwondo, dance, music, and chess sections started operating at the Hub as well.
