Ukrainian School in Aberdeen Reopens its Doors For The Third Year in a Row
On the 1st of September, the Ukrainian School in Aberdeen has reopened its doors for the third year in a row. Started as a refuge for Ukrainians fleeing war, the School became a vibrant hub based in the Rosemount Learning Centre, with support of the Ukrainian Hub Aberdeen, volunteers, the City Council, and Lord Provost of Aberdeen. The School is open on Sundays in term time for children ages 4-14 to learn in Ukrainian about Ukrainian language and history, do maths, arts and crafts, engage with extracurricular activities such a chess and taekwondo.
The opening of a Ukrainian school for the third year in a row in Aberdeen is more than just an educational event – it is a significant step in preserving our national identity and culture far from home. In these difficult times, it is important not to forget your roots, traditions and language. The Ukrainian School is a place where we can come together, support each other, pass on our heritage to children and see happy faces beaming with pride for their culture.
We want to express our great gratitude to our heroes for all the opportunities we have today. Thanks to their courage and dedication, we can stand here and build our future. Their feat gives us freedom and the opportunity to realise our dreams. We are infinitely grateful for their invaluable contribution to our lives.
This is an incredible and unforgettable moment. It is important to explain why the Ukrainian School is so important. Our teachers give their heart and soul, working as volunteers because their mission is to pass on knowledge and culture to the next generations. All students have the opportunity to receive education at no cost to parents. For the third year in a row, our school remains a beacon of hope and support. This is our contribution to the preservation of our native language, traditions and culture, even far from home. Here children can learn their native language, traditions and maintain a connection with their homeland, even while abroad.
We take our responsibilities to children seriously and ensure that all our volunteers are trained and PVG-checked. We are constantly working on improving our child protection policies and ensure safety of all children and volunteers. With around 80 students currently enrolled and many on waiting list, we are at capacity for both the building space and the student-volunteers ratio as we do our best to ensure we comply with our legal requirements and responsibility to our community. However, we are working on solutions to increase our offerings as soon as we can.
